Airstream RV Maintenance

Airstream RVs are well known for their ultra-shiny exterior and capsule shape. Airstream models are unmistakable and loved by RV enthusiasts everywhere. However, just like any RV, they require maintenance and care on a regular basis. Here is a basic guide to everything you need to know to maintain and service your Airstream RV.

Every Two Months

At the two-month mark, you will need to check on several things.

  •       First, check that the escape windows work correctly and are not stuck or jammed.
  •       Next, check the battery and add distilled water only, if needed. The older your battery, the

more often it will need to be checked on.

  •       Test your smoke alarms and CO detector and replace batteries if necessary.
  •       Check that your tires are in good condition, and at the correct tire pressure.
  •       Inspect the vehicle for any loose bolts or unusual wear.
  •       Finally, test the GFI circuit breaker and make sure it is working properly.

Every Three Months

Once you reach three months, there are several other things you will need to inspect.

  •       Inspect all door locks, latches, and hinges, and oil if needed
  •       Check wheel lug nuts and make any necessary adjustments
  •       Test the breakaway switch, and oil if needed
  •       Spray the 7-way plug with contact cleaner, if needed.
  •       In the range exhaust hood, clean the filters and fan.

Every Six Months

Here are things you need to inspect at the six-month mark on your Airstream RV.

  •       Inspect the brakes and make sure they are in good working condition.
  •       Visually inspect wheel bearings and tire rotation.
  •       Make sure you have a spare tire that is in good condition and ready to use at any time.
  •       Check all window and door seals for damage, clean with mild detergent, and coat with Slipicone product.
  •       Wash and wax your RV to prevent rust.

Once Yearly Maintenance

  •       Check your battery and clean terminals.
  •       Have LPG tanks purged by the supplier.
  •       Check all seams for rust and reseal any as needed.
  •       Check hitch coupler and ball for any damages.

These are the basics of keeping your Airstream RV shiny and in good condition. Eventually, however, wear and tear may take its toll, and something may break that is beyond your ability to repair.
